How many gallons does my pool hold?

The number of gallons that your pool holds is also called the volume of your pool, and there is a simple formula that you can use to calculate it:

Average Length (feet) x Average Width (feet) x Average Depth (feet) x Multiplier = Total Volume in Gallons

  • The multiplier for a rectangular or square pool is 7.5
  • The multiplier for a round or oval pool is 5.9

Note: All measurements should be in feet, including the depth.

For above ground pools, assume that the water depth is 6" less than the wall height. Therefore, if your pool is:

  • 48" tall, assume your depth is 3.5'
  • 53" tall, assume your depth is 4'
  • 54" tall, assume your depth is 4.2'
