Measure the distance between your suction port or skimmer to the farthest point in the pool that you need to reach plus add the depth of the deep end of your pool. The hose shouldn’t be stretched or under tension. Many residential pools use hoses in the 1.5” diameter range for standard vacuum applications. The diameter and length both matter - a hose that’s too narrow or too short can reduce suction efficiency and cause more wear and tear on your entire system.

You can use a generic manual vacuum hose if you’re doing manual vacuuming and the length and diameter match your setup; however, many automatic cleaners have model-specific hoses, so you need one that’s compatible with your machine.

  • After use, rinse the hose to remove debris and chemicals, and let it dry completely before storing.
  • Avoid sharp bends or kinks when using or coiling the hose, as these can damage the walls or create weak spots.
  • Store your hose out of direct sunlight to reduce UV damage, and avoid letting large, heavy objects sit on the hose.
  • Inspect the hose periodically for cracks, splits, or loss of suction.
