Triangle

Winter plugs (also called winterizing drain plugs, expansion plugs, or freeze plugs) are devices used to seal off various pool plumbing openings (skimmers, return jets, main drains, cleaner lines) during the off-season to prevent water from freezing in the lines and causing damage to your pipes and fittings. By plugging the lines and draining water, you reduce the risk of ice expansion damaging the plumbing and pool equipment.

Triangle

You should install winter plugs when your pool is being closed for the winter, and after you’ve removed or blown out water from the lines. The general guideline is when the water regularly drops to 60-65°F, or when the nights begin to risk freezing.
